Internet in China: users hit more than 500 million, growth reaching a plateau

China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the 29th statistical report on Internet development:

The ‘report’ shows that as of the end of December 2011, the scale of Chinese netizens hit more than 500 million. The Internet penetration rate increased by 4% compared with 2010, and had shown a declined increasing rate compared with the increasing rate of 6% for each year since 2007. It deserves to pay extra attention that Chinese website amount sees rapid rising after completion of downturned in the second half-year of 2011.

Scale of Chinese netizens hit more than 5 hundred million; the growth enters into platform period

The ‘report’ shows that by the end of December 2011, the total number of Chinese netizens has been over 500 million, to 513 million. The newly increased netizens throughout the year are 55.8 million. Internet penetration increases 4 percentage points compared with that at the end of earlier year, to 38.3%. The scale of Chinese mobile phone users reached 356 million, an increase of 17.5% year on year. Compared with the previous years, the netizen scale growth enters into the platform period.

Netizen scale of China continues to enlarge although the increasing rate gradually slowed down. The ‘report’ analyzed that in the past five years, among the crowd categories pushing the rapid increase of netizen scale, Internet penetration is about to top. However, it’s hard for the crowd of other ages and education levels to accept Internet with the same speed for the young and highly educated group, leading to the slow increasing rate of Chinese netizen amount
