Brazil had 79.9 million Internet users by the end of the fourth quarter of 2011, according to a survey released by Ibope. According to the study, growth was 2% over the previous quarter, 8% over the same period in 2010 and 19% over 2009.
Ibope said web access at home and at work were responsible for the growth of Internet users in the country.
According to the survey, Internet use at home or at work kept growing in 2012. In the first quarter of the year, access to these places reached 66 million people. Of these, 48.7 million were active users in February, representing a growth of 2.5% over the month of January and 18% of the 41.4 million the same month last year.
According to Ibope, the number of people who have a home computer with Internet reached 62.6 million. Of these, 39.7 million were active users in February 2012, an increase of 18% over the same month in 2011. The increase, according to the company, is the growth of households with broadband at speeds over 2 Mbps in two years, has grown over 300%.
