The number of active Internet users in Brazil in September 2011 was 46,300,000, an increase of 14% over the same month last year, according to data released by Nielsen Online Ibope recently.
With the new number, Brazil beats Germany, France and the UK in number of active users at home or at work. The Brazil ranks third in the list of countries that monitor the internet using the same methodology and the United States and Japan are in the first place.
The biggest growth in the number of active users in Brazil occurred in homes. According to Nielsen, between September 2009 and the same month of 2011, growth was 37%.
Also according to the research institute, the total of Brazilians with internet access in any environment reached 77.8 million in the second quarter of 2011-which included access in locations such as homes, workplaces, schools and Internet cafes.
The number of Brazilians who live in homes where there is the presence of a computer with Internet access reached 58 million in the third quarter of 2011, which represents 10 million more than was recorded in 2010.
