Intellectual Property: patent applications rise in Shanghai

Despite the global financial crisis, patent applications were up last year, officials said recently. A total of 52,835 patents were applied for in Shanghai last year, up 11.9 percent from the previous year. Of the total, 17,829 were for new inventions, 17.2 percent more than in 2007.

Next week is the city’s Intellectual Property Promotion Week. The administration will announce last year’s worst 10 cases of intellectual property violation. A forum will be held to encourage companies to develop intellectual property to fight the financial crisis.
