Intellectual Property: U.S. claims victory in WTO complaint on China piracy, China vows copyright cooperation
The United States claimed victory recently in a groundbreaking World Trade Organization case against China for failing to protect and enforce copyrights and trademarks on a wide range of goods. 'Today, a WTO panel found that a number of deficiencies in China's IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) regime are incompatible with its WTO obligations,' acting U.S. Trade Representative Peter Allgeier said in a statement. The International Intellectual Property Alliance, a coalition of U.S. music, movie, book and software industry groups, conservatively estimates that piracy in China costs them more than $3.7 billion in lost sales. The WTO ruling means China and other nations 'can't simply go through the motions' of protecting intellectual property, but must provide effective results, Neil Turkewitiz, an executive vice president at the Recording Industry Association of America, said in a statement...
China’s software export hit $14.2 bln in 2008
China's software export soared 39 percent last year to 14.2 billion U.S. dollars from 2007, despite the international financial crisis, announced the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The export included 1.59 billion dollars from outsourcing services, up 54.3 percent year on year. MIIT said the software industry maintained a rapid growth last year, with the business revenue increasing by 29.8 percent to 757.3 billion yuan (110.8 billion U.S. dollars). China’s Software Industry Revenue Rises 31.2%
China's software industry income amounted to 193.55 billion yuan from January to April, up 31.2 percent year-on-year, and 11.4 percentage points higher than the electronic information industry, according to information released by the Ministry of Industry and Information. The revenue from software products accounted for 70.39 billion yuan (10.2 billion US dollars): it is still the main component of the software industry. Revenue from software technology services saw the fastest growth and amounted to 35.63 billion yuan (5.1 billion US dollars), growing by 48.2 percent year-on-year. China software industry reports 20% rise in revenue
China's software sector generated 580 billion yuan (about 80.8 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue in 2007, an annual increase of 20.8 percent, the Ministry of Information Industry reported: sales of software products surged 22.5 percent to 201.7 billion yuan, while system integration income rose 16 percent to 147.8 billion yuan (nearly 21 billion US dollars). The income of software and information technology services hit 97.8 billion yuan (over 13 billion US Dollars), up 24.8 percent. Shanghai IT income set to beat US$128billion
Revenue of Shanghai's information technology industry is set to double last year's figure to surpass 1 trillion yuan (US$128 billion) in 2010 when the World Expo is held here.
