Education in China: Gap between rural and urban education levels huge
A survey made public recently by Peking University shows that China is seeing an increasingly large gap between the education levels of people holding urban and rural permanent residency permits, or hukou in Chinese. The survey, carried out in Beijing, Shanghai, and southern Guangdong Province, found that only 0.7 percent of the 2,732 rural respondents have university degrees or higher as opposed to 13.6 percent among the 3,253 urbanites polled [...]

Living in China: Survey shows Beijing’s office workers spend 70 minutes on daily commute
According to statistics released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics (BMBS), residents' average daily work-related travel time was 70 minutes in 2008, 16 minutes longer than 20 years ago. The survey's statistics show that the average daily duration of work for urban and rural residents was 5 hours and 55 minutes in 2008, 43 minutes shorter than 20 years ago. At the same time, work-related travel time was 70 minutes, 16 minutes longer than 20 years ago.
Architecture & Urban Planning in China: Shanghai is the world’s 4th tallest city
Shanghai made it to 4th place in Forbes' list of the world's tallest cities with a total of 21 towers climbing over 700 feet. China Enacts National Competition Law
Culminating a 13-year drafting process, on August 30 the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress enacted China's first competition law, the Anti-Monopoly Law ( [Fan Longduan Fa] ).
