Investing in China: Shanghai to launch plan to use yuan for foreign trading
Shanghai is set to be among the first to implement a pilot program to settle overseas trade using the Chinese RMB yuan to consolidate its international financial hub position, the Shanghai Financial Services Office said recently. Using the yuan as a settlement currency for international trade is a step forward to internationalizing the currency and will also boost Shanghai as an international financial hub. The city is a magnet for overseas financial players, home to the China headquarters of giants such as HSBC and Citigroup. Living in China: Shanghai heads list of expats’ favorite cities
Shanghai maintains the highest quality of life on Chinese mainland for Asian expats, but environmental pollution problem is still a concern, according to the latest survey. The Location Ranking Survey, conducted by one of the world's largest human resources organizations, ECA International, ranked Shanghai in 11th place in Asia and 78th in the world in terms of expat living conditions. Internet in China: Shanghai to establish the first citywide wireless broadband network in mainland China
Shanghai will have established a citywide wireless broadband network by 2010: Shanghai’s Municipal Informatization Commission and China Telecom Shanghai revealed that wireless demonstration areas will be ready for use in 2008. A number of regions are currently competing to become exhibition areas and obtain future construction projects. Finance industry employees in China top salary rankings
Employees in the financial sector earned much more than workers in other industries last year thanks to the lucrative financial market, an annual salary report has revealed. The report, released by leading human-resources service provider Zhaopin.com in Shanghai, was based on a survey of more than 1,000 companies across all sectors throughout the country last year. Internet in China: online game market hit 1.8 billion US Dollars in 2007
China's online gaming market surged 66.7 percent year-on-year to hit 12.8 billion yuan in 2007, according to a report released by i Research Inc., a Shanghai-based consulting firm. The jump is largely driven by China's massive player-pool and operators' marketing efforts, said the firm. The number of China's netizens grew 53 percent last year from 2006 to hit 210 million by December, which means the country is close to overtaking the United States to become the world's No. 1 by web population size, according to China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC): Nearly 60 percent of the web users (more than 120 million) have played at least one title in the past year, with an average of 7.3 hours spent on the online games every week.
