Data Visualization

I’ve created various types of relationship, interaction diagrams and other data visualization techniques to communicate with different stakeholders for different purposes:

  • Visualize large sets of data to help Product Managers with prioritization of requirements;
  • Support buy-in from Software Architects and Tech leads in the narrowing the scope of design solutions;

Swimlane Diagrams

I’ve created swimlane diagrams to visualize the interrelationship of personas (assigned to the lanes) and to identify which use cases are involved (represented by boxes) in each major functionality area (represented by the columns) of the product.

Use Cases Lists: PUGH MATRIX

Based on the work of Jon Innes and James McElroy, I’ve created Use Cases Lists (or Pugh Matrix), which is decision matrix to help evaluate and prioritize a list of options. I’ve worked with teams to first establish a list of weighted criteria and then evaluates each option against those criteria, trying to take the input from the different stakeholders of the team into account (user experience, business values, etc).

Command Clustering Analysis

I’ve devised an visualization method that – with the support the Customer Involvement Program Team at Autodesk – helped understand customer behavior by analyzing sequences/affinity of commands of the AutoCAD Map3D mapping software.

Insight Matrix

Due to the distributed nature of different design teams I’ve worked with in the past (some of them with designers in 3 different continents), I’ve used the insight matrix method as an alternative to the traditional Affinity Diagrams to process the design insights that resulted from our contextual inquiry interviews.
