Internet in China: over 80 million chinese access internet through mobile phone

There are 84.5 million users of mobile internet in China, which means 30 per cent of Chinese internet users surf the internet by mobile phone, said Yang Zemin, official from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently. Yang said the number of phone subscribers was 354 million by the end of August, 2008, decreased for the first time by 11 million. However, the number of subscriber of mobile phone was 616 million, up by 68.7 million from January to August this year [...]

Autodesk to buy Softimage|XSI

Autodesk has signed a definitive agreement with Avid to acquire substantially all of the assets of Avid’s Softimage business unit for around US$35 million. This will mean that Autodesk will own three of the main 3D suites: 3ds Max, Maya and Softimage|XSI. Autodesk plans to acquire and continue developing the core Softimage|XSI suite, the Softimage|Face Robot facial animation software, the Softimage|Cat character animation plug-in for 3ds Max and the Softimage|Crosswalk ‘interoperability solution’ – which will be integrated with Autodesk’s own sharing technology…

New Autodesk Productivity Study available

Autodesk announced the availability of the AutoCAD P&ID Productivity Study, conducted by the U.K. research firm Cambashi Limited, to demonstrate the benefits of using AutoCAD P&ID (piping and instrumentation diagram) software to AutoCAD software users working in process-plant design and engineering. The study tested Autodesk’s hypothesis that AutoCAD P&ID software offers significant productivity advantages over standard AutoCAD for work on P&ID.

Internet in China: Alibaba to invest over 730 million US dollars in online auction unit

Taobao, the online auction unit of China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, announced the parent company would invest in it 5 billion yuan (732 million U.S. dollars) over the next five years.
